Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing

The Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing programme is where the Better Learners Better Workers scheme all began, with the help of the Cutlers’ Company.

The programme is led by The Work-wise Foundation, working with sector employers across the region who act as Business Champions.

Ambassadors find out about skill requirements and career opportunities in the Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing sector through a rich range of experiences:

During Year 9

  • Induction to Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing
  • Enterprise Challenge launch
  • Back to the Future team building event at Magna
  • Enterprise Challenge workshops supported by entrepreneurs and business leaders
  • Enterprise showcase and marketplace at Magna
  • STEM Discovery Day at Sheffield Hallam University
  • Innovation Challenge launch – a real business innovation challenge set by local companies that will be judged at the upcoming Get Up To Speed event
  • Skills Matter Day – individual and team building activities
  • Get up to Speed engineering event including the judging of the Innovation Challenge
  • Industry and learning provider visit

During Year 10

  • Induction and Year 9 review workshop
  • Business Challenge launch
  • Visits to engineering and manufacturing businesses to learn about the roles, opportunities and challenges facing the sector, with linked projects
  • One-to-one interviews at The Cutlers’ Hall
  • Dragons Den style Business Challenge

During Y11 after the programme
